[ARCHIVED] Increased Theft From Vehicles

The Wyomissing Police Department has observed a concerning rise in thefts from vehicles throughout the summer months.  This uptick in vehicle-related thefts serves as a reminder for residents to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to protect their belongings.  The Wyomissing Police Department understands the impact that the violation of privacy through theft from vehicles can have on residents.  It is deeply upsetting to have any belonging stolen, even more so when it is from in front of your home.

In nearly every reported case of overnight theft from vehicles, it was found that the vehicles were left unlocked. This underscores the fact that locking car doors is one of the easiest and most effective ways to deter opportunistic thieves.

To enhance community safety and prevent future incidents, the Wyomissing Police Department offers the following crime prevention tips:

  1. Lock Your Car Doors: Always lock your vehicle, even if parked in your driveway or a seemingly safe area.
  2. Remove Valuables: Do not leave valuables such as electronics, wallets, purses, or firearms in your vehicle. If you must store valuables in your car, ensure they are hidden from plain view or stored in the trunk.
  3. Report Suspicious Activity: If you observe any suspicious individuals or behavior in your neighborhood, do not hesitate to contact the Wyomissing Police Department immediately. For non-emergency situations, call 610-375-6102. In emergencies, dial 911.

Community cooperation is essential in combating vehicle-related thefts. By working together and remaining vigilant, we can significantly reduce these incidents and maintain a safer environment for everyone.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about local crime trends and additional safety tips by visiting the Wyomissing Police Department's Facebook page and following their social media updates.
